Recipient of the Templeton Freedom Award for Special Achievement by a Young Institute 2012

India Institute was established as a not for profit, public policy, think tank based in New Delhi. When our first report, Private School Revolution in Bihar: Findings from a survey in Patna Urban, was published, the Bihar government acknowledged our work and reversed their policy regarding school education, and thus, safeguarding quality English medium education to over 150,000 students in Patna alone. The Bihar government, with informal access to the report before the official launch, announced that no private school would be shut down though mandated by law. The Education Department of Bihar invited India Institute to collaborate in revising rules for school recognition.

District Information System for Education (DISE), acknowledged our findings and subsequently rectified their data.

India Institute received the Templeton Freedom Award for Special Achievement by a Young Institute within less than two years of its establishment for it’s Patna study. We hold the distinction of being the only think tank from Asia to receive this honour that year.
