Vision & Mission

Vision

A society where every individual has the knowledge, skills, and opportunity to flourish; and where public institutions are accountable, evidence-informed, and worthy of trust.

Mission

Advancing dignity, choice, and equal opportunity through research, insight, and action.

How we work

India Institute is a research organisation that takes positions. We conduct rigorous empirical research and follow findings into advocacy – because evidence tells us what the problem is, and values and reasoning tell us what to do about it.

We believe in individual dignity, freedom of choice, and the rule of law. We believe that limited, accountable government enables more than it restricts, and that ordinary people – given information, choice, and the protection of law – make better decisions for themselves than institutions make for them.

In practice, our work involves:

  • Designing and conducting randomised controlled trials, large-scale surveys, and validation studies
  • Engaging union and state governments across India as a trusted research partner
  • Publishing findings freely – as reports, policy briefs, and peer-reviewed papers
  • Taking our research into public discourse through commentary, a podcast (upcoming), events, and media engagement
  • Advocating for policy change where evidence clearly points the way
